The election for faculty positions on the Executive Committee on Research (ECOR) were held earlier this fall, with six candidates vying for two open positions–one each at the Professor and Associate Professor level. Please join us in welcoming the two newest faculty representatives: Madhusmita Misra, MD, MPH and Alice Ho, MD, MBA.
Drs. Ho and Misra will join the four ECOR faculty members, Genevieve Boland, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor in Surgery, Yakeel Quiroz, PhD, Assistant Professor in Psychiatry/Neurology, Elizabeth Lawson, MS, MMSc, Associate Professor in Endocrinology and Miriam Bredella, MD, Professor of Radiology.
Prior to the election, each candidate created short campaign videos explaining their reasons for running and what they hope to accomplish. See below for brief summaries of the winning candidates’ submissions.
Madhusmita Misra, MD, MPH
Chief of Pediatric Endocrinology, Mass General Hospital for Children
Fritz Bradley Talbot and Nathan Bill Talbot Professor of Pediatrics, Harvard Medical School
As an NIH-funded physician scientist with more than two decades of research experience, Dr. Misra believes she has a good understanding of the daily challenges scientists face.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, these challenges have become even greater as researchers try to balance childcare and additional responsibilities at home.
“There’s a critical need to develop innovative strategies and support systems that will enable investigators to be as efficient and productive as possible during these times.”
Madhusmita Misra, MD, MPH
NEWLY ELECTED ECOR REPRESENTATIVE
“As an ECOR representative, I hope to further develop these support systems to ensure our investigators—particularly our young investigators—are protected in this environment and continue to thrive.”
Alice Ho, MD, MBA
Department of Radiation Oncology
Associate Professor of Radiation Oncology, Harvard Medical School
Dr. Ho has been at Mass General for nearly three years, previously working at Cedar-Sinai Medical Center and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
Since her arrival, the intellectual support and resources provided by ECOR and the Mass General Cancer Center played a key role in getting six new clinical trials (three of which are investigator-initiated and Mass General-led national trials) up and running, she says.
She hopes to pay this forward by helping to connect new investigators with the resources they need to advance their research.
“I’ve been encouraged by the enthusiasm I’ve seen at Mass General for supporting researchers. That has led me to want to do the same for others.”
Alice Ho, MD, MBA
NEWLY ELECTED ECOR REPRESENTATIVE
“I know from experience that bringing a clinical trial from its beginning stages through execution is a complicated process that requires hard work, and an open flow of ideas between different stakeholders—basic scientists, statisticians, collaborators from biotech and pharma companies, and patient advocates,” she says.
“While it’s complicated and requires that you don’t give up, I also find it incredibly fulfilling.”
