I was born and raised in Monterrey, Mexico—an industrial city bounded by beautiful mountains. Trying to follow my creative interests, I obtained my Bachelor’s degree in Communication and Digital Media at Tecnológico de Monterrey.
A couple of years after graduating, I wanted to get more involved in the health communications world and decided to pursue a Master’s of Science degree in public relations at Boston University’s College of Communication.
Upon arriving in Boston, I wanted to make the most of my stay. Therefore, I got involved at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute as an Ambassador Volunteer. My role consisted of assisting patients with transportation and answering questions during their hospital visits.
Later that year, I applied for an internship within the communications department at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. This provided exposure to the different media relations efforts that DFCI conducts for its philanthropic events. I also enrolled in two courses at the School of Public Health at Boston University to further cement my public health knowledge.
One of the achievements I am most proud of is my role as the director of communications and public relations at the International Research Initiative (IRI)—an academic program that recruits research fellows to perform clinical and basic science research across several Boston-based laboratories.
At IRI, I created the logo and rebranded the organization’s website, started the communications committee, and launched social media platforms to promote the program. I also helped to coordinate efforts to establish partnerships with major educational and governmental institutions in Latin America in order to expand the program’s global reach.
I’m excited to join the Communications Team at the Mass General Research Institute. My primary responsibility is to promote groundbreaking research done here. Since I graduate in December, I am looking forward to finishing my coursework—although it makes me nervous to think about what’s next!
I enjoy trying new types of teas, hiking (or anything outdoors, really!), and writing in my spare time. I’m passionate about getting to know new cultures and languages – I speak three languages (Spanish, English, and French). When I’m not studying or working, you can find me reading alongside some body of water.
